Paula Menchen’s work investigates the intersection between drawing, printmaking and painting. She analysis and unearths a synonymous language between these three mediums. Paula graduated from Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design where she majored in Fine Arts with an emphasis on Painting and Installations. She studied at Parsons school of Design and The New School her Junior year. She has exhibited her works in London, Amsterdam, Spain, Italy and America predominantly in Ca. In 2015 after returning to Spain from her studio in London she landed her first solo show at the Kasser Rassu Gallery in Marbella. The following year she was selected and featured in the International Kunst Heute Volume 2016.
In her own words when asked what motivates her she says …… “Passionate for exploration, I look for ways to experiment in my art practise. Playing with the idea of landscapes I look to these vast spaces as a starting point. I am not looking for a fomula to reproduce, instead constant curiosity for a sense of discovery.
Sanding, cutting, burning, smoothing and grinding surfaces that become impressions, footprints and traces. I begin my process as an investigation and dialogue of materials, deconstructing the image and finding the harmonious language that connects the ideas of drawing, printmaking and painting. Analysing and exploring different possibilities of each surface: its transparencies, its resistance, its texture’.
